FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What should I expect during an appointment?

All treatments start out with a quick intake to go over what you (the patient), want or need to be treated for, to see how you are doing and if you have any questions. Then a quick TCM evaluation/ diagnosis is done where you stick out your tongue and it is looked at (so don’t brush it before coming into your appointment) as well as your pulse. This gives the acupuncturist a snapshot into what’s happening in the body. Then you will lay on the table to begin treatment. It is important to communicate throughout the treatment, so she can make adjustments, there should be no pain beyond perhaps the initial insertion. Please wear loose clothing.

What is TCM?

TCM is a holistic medicine that is over 5000 years old, that promotes the healing powers of the body. By increasing circulation and stimulating the immune system which in turn decreases swelling and increasing healing to the injured area, and also helps with pain control.

Why does Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) work?

TCM is a non-invasive way to treat a lot of ailments of not only the body but the spirit. Additionally, it focuses on preventing illness and improving the body’s overall function. One of the amazing things about TCM is that if two different patients come in with the same illness TCM has many different treatment principals that can be tailored to that individual’s needs and does not just treat the main complaint but also the underlying cause. It is not a one treatment fits all methodology.
